Agency Information:  The Citizens' Utility Ratepayer Board (CURB) is seeking a highly motivated regulatory attorney with excellent writing, analytical and oral advocacy skills to assist the consumer counsel in representing residential and small commercial consumers in utility rate cases and other regulatory proceedings before the Kansas Corporation Commission, Courts of Kansas and the Kansas Legislature.

Compensation:  $58,000 - $71,000

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:  As directed by the Consumer Counsel, serves as litigation attorney in regulation cases, as well as in utility complaints filed by residential and small business ratepayers. CURB attorneys are responsible for all aspects of case development and presentation, including issue development, discovery, testimony both alone or in conjunction with outside consultants, preparation of motions, briefs and other internal and external communications. 

 

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:  Conducts legal and other research analysis associated with technical, economic, legal, and administrative issues; attends informal conferences and meetings of parties involved; appears and participates in public hearings and court proceedings held before the Kansas Corporation Commission (Commission) and Kansas Courts; and informs and advises the Board of concerning issues involving utility cases.

 

 


Qualifications

  • Education:  Degree from an accredited law school
  • Licensing & Certification:  Certification of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Kansas
